Room Reviews:

Pililaau Army Recreation Center:  May 2013 – Located at Pokai Bay at the far western edge of the island of Oahu in a working class neighborhood, this facility is designed and dedicated to recreation.  Approximately 20 renovated beachfront cabins, either 2 or 3 bedroom with air conditioning, a full kitchen with all amenities, living and dining room and separate bedrooms.  There is a patio/lanai with chairs offering the best view of the water from each cabin.  A barbecue grill is also available.  A small mini-mart is on post  with limited stock.  The restaurant/community area has WIFI and occasional nightly entertainment and the restaurant offers a full service bar and a limited menu.  Average food with average prices.  $108 night for a 2 bedroom.

MCB Hawaii:  May 2013 – The former BOQ is now called the Five Palms and all rooms are converted suites.  The Grand Opening was held this month and all rooms are completely renovated and tastefully redecorated.  Some rooms have exceptional views and air conditioning, which means some do not.  Separate bedroom from the living/work area.  No cooking facilities, but a mini-fridge and microwave is provided as well a a coffee maker.  A complimentary breakfast is provided on weekdays.  Very comfortable accommodations but no elevators to the second floor.  The Officer’s Club is located across the street.  $82 per night for 2 people for an air conditioned room, less without air.

Bellows Air Force Station:  May 2013 – Outstanding beaches at this recreation site with exceptional views of off-shore islands.  Best place for families to swim, picnic or camp.  Multiple lodging options from basic camping to camper cabins, to renovated and unrenovated cabins to a newly built 2 story mini-lodge.  More rules and regulations than the old Soviet Union that you must acknowledge,  initial and sign before allowed to rent any lodging.  Semi-Gestapo attitude among employees and security forces, but once away from that – this place is awesome.  $30 per night for a camper cabin, includes a mattress propped up on a wooden frame, no linens, no pillows, no table, no chairs, no lights, no curtains, no water, no power and no fun trying to find it at night.  Often this is the only thing available as everything else is sold out.
